London (

London has a diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries.[21] In July 2007 it had an official population of 7,556,900 within the boundaries of Greater London,[22] making it the most populous municipality in the European Union.[23] The Greater London Urban Area is the second largest in the EU with a population of 8,278,251,[2] while London's metropolitan area is the largest in the EU with an estimated total population of between 12 million[3] and 14 million.[4]
London contains four World Heritage Sites: the Tower of London; Kew Gardens; the site comprising the Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St. Margaret's Church; and the historic settlement of Greenwich (in which the Royal Observatory marks theGreenwich Meridian (0° longitude) and GMT).[24] Other famous landmarks includeBuckingham Palace, the London Eye, Piccadilly Circus, 30 St Mary Axe ("The Gherkin"), St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge and Trafalgar Square. London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions including the British Museum, National Gallery, British Library, Wimbledon and 40 theatres.[25] London's Chinatown is the largest in Europe.[26] The London Undergroundnetwork is the oldest underground railway network in the world[27] and the most extensive after the Shanghai Metro.[28]

Guangzhou,[4] also (especially formerly) known as Canton or Kwangchow,[5] is the capital and largest city of Guangdong province in the People's Republic of China. Located insouthern China on the Pearl River, about 120 km (75 mi) north-northwest of Hong Kong, Guangzhou is a key national transportation hub and trading port.[6] One of the five National Central Cities,[7] it holds sub-provincial administrative status.
Guangzhou is the third largest city in China and southern China's largest city. As of the 2000 census, the city had a population of 6 million, and an urban area population of roughly 11.85 million,[8] making it the third most populous metropolitan area in China. Some estimates place the population of the entire urban agglomeration as high as 24.2 million, making it the 2nd biggest urban area in the world after Tokyo.[9] The Guangzhou government's official estimate of the city's populatio
n at the end of 2009 was 10,334,500, an addition of 152,500 people from the previous year.[2] When the migrant (defined as being present in the city 6 months or more) population is included, the city's population is over 14 mln.[10] In 2008 Guangzhou was identified as a Beta World City by the Global city index produced by GaWC.[11]
